Sofia Anna “Sonya” Kenin is an American tennis player who was born on November 14, 1998. She currently holds a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) world No. 4 ranking, which she attained.
She won 2020 Australian Open and placed second at the 2020 French Open to receive the title of 2020 WTA Player of the Year.
Kenin has won two WTA doubles championships as well as five WTA singles championships. She and Bethanie Mattek-Sands also won the 2019 China Open at the Premier Mandatory level.
As a teen playing on the professional tour, Kenin debuted in the top 100 of the WTA rankings in 2018.
She completed the year slightly outside the top 10 after winning her first three championships.
Since Serena Williams in 1999, Kenin is the youngest American to have won a Grand Slam women’s singles championship with her victory at the 2020 Australian Open.
She received the 2020 WTA Player of the Year award at the end of the season after winning the 2019 WTA Most Improved Player of the Year honor.
