SpongeBob is now translated in isiZulu to reach larger audience

Leading cartoon network, Nickelodeon has made a major milestone by releasing their first ever Zulu episode of SquarePants to mark their 36th birthday. Zulu is one of the official languages in South Africa and it is now being used in SpongeBob.

As revealed by the Daily Sun, the episode premiered on Nicktoons, DStv channel 308, and will repeat in order to get the Zulu audiences.

“We are thrilled to present the premiere of the first-ever SpongeBob SquarePants episode in Zulu. This is a milestone first in Africa. This provides audiences the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the iconic world of Bikini Bottom like never before.

“This is one of the many steps we are taking in our commitment to being more inclusive and more localized while celebrating Africa’s rich and colorful heritage and local languages,” said Khan.

This major move of Nickelodeon in South Africa will better help the Zulu kids to entertain themselves in a language they are familiar with.
