The 62nd mayor of Houston, Texas, is an American lawyer and politician named Sylvester Turner was born on September 27, 1954. Turner, who belongs to the Democratic Party, served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1989 until 2016.
Turner enrolled in Harvard Law School and the University of Houston. Turner unsuccessful ran for mayor of Houston in 1991, falling to Bob Lanier in the rematch. He lost once more in 2023, finishing third and missing the runoff.
Turner joined the legal office of Fulbright & Jaworski after graduating from law school. He established Barnes &Turner, his own business, in 1983. Turner has worked as a seminar speaker at the South Texas College of Law and the University of Houston Law School's Continuing Legal Education Programs as well as an adjunct professor at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law.
Turner was authorized to practice law in the State of Texas, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the federal district court for the Southern District of Texas.
