Pere, a contestant on Big Brother Naija, stated his concern about what he called “hatred towards the Igbo tribe” in Nigeria.
This morning, Pere wrote on his Twitter account that “hatred against the Igbos in Nigeria is real” and that he felt bad for them.
His message reads:
“The prevailing animosity towards the Igbo people in Nigeria is undeniably real. I, myself, do not identify as Igbo, Yoruba, or Hausa, yet I empathize with their situation.
On one occasion, someone involved in politics boldly asserted to me that ‘an Igbo person can never lead Nigeria.’ If it weren’t for my restraint, I would have vehemently confronted them.
Even online, I witness an abundance of hatred directed towards the Igbo tribe. What makes it more disheartening is that these expressions of hate stem from individuals within the political sphere.
Nigeria faces a grave issue that we must confront openly and directly. It is important that we acknowledge this problem and work towards a fair and just society.”
