Famous South African actress and former model, Ayanda Borotho, best known for playing the title role in the SABC 1 sitcom Nomzamo has lambasted SA wannabes who are using the faces and sufferings of KwaZulu-Natal flood victims to gain popularity on social media.
Moments after the tragic incidents, scores of South African stars have taken it upon themselves to donate and receive donations geared towards providing some sort of leverage for the victims in KZN. However, it seems others are just taking advantage of the situation to work on their PR.
“I get it. People are out there helping out in whatever way they can. KZN is reeling from disaster. It’s a mess guys. What we see in news reports is nothing. But can we please stop posting the people affected. Post the destruction, not the people. This is not about you. It’s not about us. It’s about those affected
Post what you are doing, your groceries and blankets. THese we post to encourage people to give and raise finds but going as far as posing for pictures, posting imisamo where clothes of their children and family members are laid in memorial, women on grieving mattresses. What is that about? nenzani exactly?…”
This comes after, Ayanda Ncwane visited her home village in Endwedwe and took photos of herself with KZN flood victims. In some of the photos, she can be seen kneeling down in front of the candles and clothes of the deceased.
