The U.S. Treasury Department has penalized three top Sinaloa Cartel figures for bringing fentanyl and other drugs into the country.

According to Mail Online, the suspects, Alfonso Arzate, his brother Rene Arzate, and Rafael Felix, all run plazas for the multinational criminal organization that Joaqun “El Chapo” Guzmán co-founded.

The three men’s potential American assets are frozen as a result of the sanctions announced on Wednesday, August 9. Additionally, Americans are not allowed to interact with them in any way.

According to reports, the Arzate siblings, who are still at large, are in charge of the cartel’s activities in Tijuana and other nearby areas, where they bring drugs into the United States, including the potent synthetic opioid fentanyl.

Alfonso Arzate and Rene Arzate allegedly took part in kidnappings and murders for the infamous cartel, according to the Treasury Department. The Southern District of California U.S. District Court issued separate narcotics trafficking indictments against both men in July 2014.

After the 2013 arrest of the gang’s commander, Rodrigo “Chino Anthrax” Arechiga, Felix, also known as “The Anthrax Monkey,” reportedly assumed a high position inside the organization. The Los Anthrax is an enforcer squad for the Sinaloa Cartel.

In addition, he was detained by Mexican police in November 2014 after being charged with narcotics trafficking in the Southern District of California in the United States in July 2014.

Felix and other Sinaloa Cartel members, however, escaped from a jail in Culiacán, Sinaloa in 2017 and are still at large.
