American actor Gennaro Anthony Sirico Jr. was born on July 29, 1942, and died on July 8, 2022. He is best remembered for his role as Peter Paul “Paulie Walnuts” Gualtieri on The Sopranos. Additionally, he made numerous film appearances with Woody Allen.

Early life

Sirico was born to an Italian-American family in New York City on July 29, 1942. He was raised in Brooklyn’s East Flatbush and Bensonhurst neighborhoods. Robert Sirico, a priest and co-founder of the Acton Institute for Free Enterprise, is Sirico’s brother.

Before starting his acting career, Sirico had 28 arrests and multiple convictions, including for disorderly behavior, assault, and robbery. He was stopped at a restaurant on February 27, 1970, and a.32 caliber handgun was discovered on him.

He was charged in 1971 with extortion, coercion, and illegally having a gun. He was given a four-year prison term after being found guilty, of which he served 20 months at Sing. Sirico, who ran a disco in Manhattan, was charged with illegally possessing a fatal drug at the time of his sentencing, according to a court transcript.

Sirico claims that he was motivated to pursue acting by a performing troupe of ex-offenders who came to see him when he was incarcerated. He made an appearance in James Toback’s 1989 movie The Big Bang when he talked about his early years.
