An Indian actress who appeared in theatre, movies, and television, Uttara Baokar was born in 1944. At the National School of Drama (NSD), Delhi, Uttara studied acting under Ebrahim Alkazi and received her diploma in 1968.
Baokar performed in a number of well-known plays, including Mukyhamantri's Padmavati, Mena Gurjari's Mena, Shakespeare's Othello as Desdemona, Girish Karnad's Tughlaq as the mother, Chhote Saiyad Bade Saiyad as the nautch girl and Umrao Jaan as the main character Umrao. She also directed Sandhya Chhaya, a play by Jaywant Dalvi that Kusum Kumar translated into Hindi, in 1978.
Uttara received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1984 for her exceptional work in Hindi film and television. She was then honoured with the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1988 for her performance in Ek Din Achanak.

Uttara died away on April 12, 2023, at the age of 79. The senior actress had spent the previous year dealing with a chronic ailment.
She passed away from her condition on April 11 in a hospital in Pune. But no specifics about the condition were provided
