On November 25, 1946, Richard Cottingham, the first of four children, was born in Mott Haven, Bronx, New York City.
Pascack Valley High School in Hillsdale, New Jersey, is where Cottingham received his diploma in 1964.

Between 1967 and 1980 in New York and New Jersey, Cottingham, an American serial killer, and rapist killed at least 17 young women and girls. The Torso Killer and The Times Square Killer were two of his monikers.

Throughout his murderous rampage, Cottingham was detained on a number of less serious charges; at the time, the police were not aware of his killings or that there was an active serial killer on the loose in the New York-New Jersey region.

He has admitted to numerous further murders since his initial sentence.
Cottingham, who is now 75, is incarcerated in Trenton’s New Jersey State Prison for life without the prospect of release.
