On Monday, rapper Young Thug will finally face a jury in Atlanta, beginning a much-anticipated trial that will establish whether or not he played a significant role in the illegal street gang Young Slime Life, or YSL.

The 32-year-old rapper started his hip-hop career in 2010 and goes by Jeffery Lamar Williams. He is originally from Atlanta.

Known for his songs “Best Friend” and “Floyd Mayweather,” Young Thug performed at several prestigious events, such as Coachella and the BET Awards, and garnered Grammy nominations and MTV Video Music Awards, all of which contributed to the growth of the Atlanta rap scene.

However, Young Thug’s career came to an abrupt end in May 2022 after he was taken into custody on allegations of engaging in criminal racketeering in Georgia and breaking the law.

What Happened To Young Thug?

Young Thug has amassed hundreds of thousands of fans since launching his career in 2010 and has worked with some of the greatest names in hip-hop, such as Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, and Drake. However, according to Georgia officials, he hangs out with dangerous people.

Georgia authorities accused the rapper of being a founding member of the criminal group Young Slime Life, or YSL, in a broad 56-count indictment that was issued on May 9, 2022.

The rapper’s Young Stoner Life label and the criminal group are connected by an acronym. Williams is one of 28 individuals purportedly connected to YSL, which also includes rappers Gunna and Unfoonk.

According to the indictment, YSL was established in Atlanta in 2012 and purports to have “affiliation with the national Bloods gang.”
