Bulelwa Mkutukana, best known by her stage name Zahara, was a well-known South African singer-songwriter who was born in East London, South Africa.

Zahara grew up in the informal settlement of Phumlani. The couple, Nokhaya and Mlamli Mkutukana, had a total of seven children. It was Zahara, the sixth child.

When she was six years old, she joined the school chorus, and by the time she was nine years old, she had advanced to the senior choir.

Her stage name, Zahara, translates to “blooming flower,” which reflects her vibrant persona in the music industry. Her childhood friends affectionately referred to her as “Spinach.”

In 2017, she debuted with Warner Music with the publication of her platinum-selling album, “Mgodi.” In 2021, Zahara’s fifth album, “Nqaba Yam,” reached its highest position on the iTunes charts.

What Happened To Zahara?

Zahara, whose real name was Bulelwa Mkutukana, passed dead. The multi-award-winning South African singer passed away on Monday night in a private Johannesburg hospital.

Two weeks prior, she had been hospitalized for issues related to her liver. Mpho Xaba, Zahara’s fiancé, was allegedly on her bedside when she died, just before nine o’clock at night. It is anticipated that the family will shortly make an official announcement.
