British politician Rishi Sunak (born 12 May 1980) formerly held the position of Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 2019 to 2020 before serving as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022. He is a Conservative Party member and has served as Richmond (YorksMP )'s since 2015.
Sunak attended Winchester College for his education. He then pursued studies in philosophy, politics, and economics at Lincoln College in Oxford before earning an MBA as a Fulbright Scholar from Stanford University.
He met Akshata Murty, the daughter of N. R. Narayana Murthy, the billionaire Indian businessman who founded Infosys while attending Stanford University, where she would later become his wife.
Following graduation, he worked for Goldman Sachs before becoming a partner at The Children's Investment Fund Management and Theleme Partners, two hedge fund companies.
In October 2014, Sunak was chosen as the Conservative candidate for Richmond (Yorks). William Hague, a former party leader, foreign secretary, and first secretary of state had previously held the position but decided to resign at the subsequent general election.
The position has been held by the party for more than a century and is one of the safest Conservative seats in the United Kingdom.
Sunak co-authored a report on BME communities while serving as the head of Policy Exchange's Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Research Unit in the same year.
