Edward Christopher Sheeran is a singer-songwriter from England. He was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and raised in Framlingham, Suffolk, where he began writing songs when he was eleven years old. Sheeran released the extended play No. 5 Collaborations Project on his own in early 2011.

Ed Sheeran signed with Asylum Records. Sheeran’s debut album, pronounced “plus, debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart in September 2011. “The A Team,” his first smash single, was included on the album. Sheeran was named Best British Male Solo Artist and also claimed the British Breakthrough Act at the Brit Awards in 2012.

Sheeran’s fan base grew as he became more visible on the internet thanks to YouTube, and he received accolades from The Independent newspaper and Elton John. In June 2010, he performed a Station Session at St. Pancras International.

Sheeran performed his debut single “The A Team” on the BBC music show Later… with Jools Holland on April 26, 2011. “The A Team” was published as a digital download in the UK six weeks later. “The A Team” debuted at number three on the UK Singles Chart, selling over 58,000 copies in its first week, and served as the lead single off Sheeran’s debut studio album, + pronounced “plus”. With 801,000 copies sold, it was the best-selling debut single of 2011 and the eighth-best-selling single overall. The lead single also charted in the top ten around the world.
