Lauren Schmidt Hissrich developed the fantasy drama television series The Witcher for Netflix.

It is based on Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel series of the same name. The Witcher examines the legends of Princess Ciri, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Geralt of Rivia.

It is set on a made-up landmass known as the Continent, which has medieval influences. Freya Allan, Anya Chalotra, and Henry Cavill are the main actors.

Netflix launched the first season, which has eight episodes, on December 20, 2019.

The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, anthologies of short stories that come before The Witcher main story, served as its inspiration. On December 17, the second season, which similarly included eight episodes and was based on the book Blood of Elves, was made available.

Netflix gave the show a third season renewal in September 2021. With eight episodes total, the third season will air in two volumes on June 29 and July 27, 2023.

A fourth season with Liam Hemsworth reprising his role as Geralt of Rivia will come after this.

August 23, 2021 saw the debut of The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, an animated origin narrative movie. The Witcher: Blood Origin, a prequel miniseries, debuted on December 25, 2022.
