Poitier was one Bahamian-American movie star who appeared in over 50 films, received an Academy Award, and created waves in Hollywood. When Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper learned of Sir Sidney Poitier’s demise, he expressed confused feelings of tremendous grief and joy.

Thus according Eyewitness News Bahamas, Bahamas Minister of Foreign Affairs Fred Mitchell confirmed the death of the Acadamy Award recipient. He was 94 years old at the time.

As at now, friends and relatives have yet to make public Poitier’s funeral and burial service.

Sidney Poitier KBE was an actor, film director, and diplomat of Bahamian descent. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the very first time in 1964, making him the first African-American and the very first Bahamian to do so.

Poitier expired through “natural factors” and had been “ill for a long,” according to Clint Watson, the Bahamas Prime Minister’s press secretary, in a declaration to Forbes. There has been no other leading causes of death determined. Poitier died after surviving prostate cancer for more than 20 years.
