Dando was shot dead outside her home in Fulham, southwest London, on April 26, 1999, sparking the Metropolitan Police’s greatest murder investigation and the country’s longest criminal investigation since the hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper.

Jill Wendy Dando was born at Weston-super-Mare’s Ashcombe House Maternity Home. Dando attended Worle Infant School, Greenwood Junior School, Worle Comprehensive School, and Broadoak Sixth Form Centre, where she was the head girl and finished her A-levels.

Jill Dando then attended Cardiff Metropolitan University to study journalism. Dando was a member of the Weston-super-Mare Amateur Dramatic Society and the Exeter Little Theatre Company, both of which performed at the Barnfield Theatre.
