Richard Patrick Versace, popularly known as Dick Versace, was an American basketball coach and executive who was born on April 16, 1940 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, United States.
He enrolled at the University of Wisconsin where he had his tertiary education however, details about his high school institution is unknown.
He is renowned as the first American of Puerto Rican descent to have coached a National Basketball Association (NBA) team.
Versace coached at the high school and collegiate level and in the NBA including St. Joseph High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Gordon Tech in Chicago.
In 1973, he began his college coaching career at St. Louis University after compiling a 204-66 record at the high school coaching level.
Coach Versace became head men’s basketball coach at Bradley University, and led the school’s team to the 1982 NIT championship.
He was named National College Coach of the Year by the U.S. Basketball Writers’ Association in the 1985- 86 season.
