After 14 years of fame, the group momentarily split up in 2012, although they subsequently came back together in 2018.

Who Died In Westlife?

Stephen Gately died.

Stephen Patrick David Gately (17 March 1976 – 10 October 2009) was an Irish pop singer-songwriter, actor, children’s author, dancer, and co-lead singer of the boy band Boyzone. During Gately’s lifetime, all three of Boyzone’s studio albums peaked at number one in the UK, with the third album serving as the group’s most successful internationally.

With Boyzone, Gately set a record by having sixteen singles in a row to reach the UK Singles Chart’s top five.

In 2009, Gately passed away in a Mallorca, Spain, apartment he and Cowles shared due to a congenital cardiac problem.

“Stephen Gately’s death signals the first time that the boyband genre has had to deal with such a devastating circumstance,” Brian Boyd wrote in The Irish Times.
