According to Walter J. Kowalski, chief executive officer of Bob Ross Inc. in Sterling, Va., the reason was cancer.

Who Is Bob Ross Wife Lynda Brown?

When Bob Ross was just 18 years old, he enrolled in the United States Air Force. Vicky, his first wife, met early in his military career. She recalled how much he enjoyed painting and would often work late into the night, even if he had to be at work the next day. Bob was scheduled to report to an Air Force post in Alaska when the pair married in 1965. Vicky became pregnant with their son, Steve, not long after their wedding.

Bob was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma just weeks after his second wife died. In 1995, he married Lynda Brown, a nurse he had met for a few months during his time working in a hospital. They stayed married until his death two months later, in July 1995, from lymphoma-related complications.
