Jones played college football at Duke University from 2015 to 2018. He was the starting quarterback for the Blue Devils and had a successful collegiate career. In his junior season, he threw for over 2,600 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Daniel Jones declared for the 2019 NFL Draft after his junior year at Duke. He was selected by the New York Giants as the 6th overall pick in the first round. This selection was somewhat controversial at the time, as many experts were surprised by the choice.
