Edward Regan Murphy is an American actor, comedian, writer, producer, and singer. He rose to fame from the sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live for which aired from 1980 to 1984.
He received his first Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for hosting Saturday Night Live in 2020.
He has also worked as a stand-up comedian for which he was ranked No. 10 on Comedy Central's list of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time.
For his role in 48Hrs. (1982), Beverly Hills Cop series (1984–present), Trading Places (1983), The Nutty Professor (1996), and Dolemite Is My Name (2019), as an actor, he received a Golden Globe Award nominations.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts awarded him the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2015. As a single, he has released three studio albums to his credit, namely, “How Could It Be” in 1985, “So Happy” in 1989, and “Love's Alright” in 1993.
