Graham Norton was born Graham William Walker on 4 April 1963 in Clondalkin, County Dublin, Ireland to William “Billy” (died 2000), a Guinness sales representative, and Rhoda Walker. Paula is his older sister.

He grew raised in the town of Bandon, County Cork, in a Protestant (Church of Ireland) family, which he says made him feel rather alienated.

Graham Norton’s father’s family is from County Wicklow, and his mother is from Belfast. During a 2007 episode of Who Do You Think You Are?, he discovered that his father’s immediate ancestors were English, having originated in Yorkshire before fleeing to Ireland in 1713.

After attending Bandon Grammar School in County Cork, Graham Norton pursued higher education at University College Cork.

During the 1980s, he enrolled in English and French courses, but his studies were cut short due to a breakdown he experienced.

Following this incident, he faced difficulties leaving his flat and subsequently did not complete his academic pursuits.
