After undergoing fertility therapy, a 70-year-old woman in Uganda gave birth to twins, making her one of the oldest new mothers in history.

Who Is Safina Namukwaya?

According to Arthur Matsiko, a spokesman for the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Center, Safina Namukwaya gave birth to a boy and a girl on Wednesday via cesarean section at the hospital in the capital, Kampala, where she had been getting in vitro fertilization therapy.

“She is in good health. She’s speaking. Speaking of Namukwaya, who gave birth to a daughter at the same institution in 2020 after undergoing IVF therapy, Matsiko stated on Friday, “She’s walking around if they tell her to walk around the hospital.”

The owner of the facility, a well-known gynaecologist in East Africa, is Namukwaya, the oldest lady to give birth there. The facility specializes in providing support to infertile couples.

Research advances are increasing the success rates of in vitro fertilization. Notably, the media revealed that a 73-year-old southern Indian woman who received IVF treatment in 2019 gave birth to twin girls.
