Teddy Balkind met his untimely death during an ice hockey match between St. Luke’s and Brunswick School in Connecticut.
On January 6, 2022, Teddy Balkind died during the game after colliding with one of the players resulting his a skate slashing his neck to death. Teddy Balkind until his death was a 10th grader from St. Luke’s.
After the accident, Teddy Balkind was rushed to the hospital but he met his untimely death. A Hockey expert during an interview on CBS Local stated that Teddy Balkind could have been saved should he had worn a neck guard.
“One of the problems with the neck guards, besides them being so cumbersome, is they didn’t eliminate the risk of lacerations… these aren’t flawless,” – he said.
Who was Teddy Balkind?
Teddy Balkind was a St. Luke’s student. Teddy Balkind was in the 10th grade and was regarded by his teachers as a brilliant student.
A family member recounting his experience with Teddy told the media:
“Teddy Balkind was a fearless, beautiful soul, who was full of life and a friend to all…Teddy led by example was a mentor to our younger campers, and was just an amazing young man.” In 2021, he was named a captain of one of the camp’s “tribes”, and had won numerous awards in his time there.
His death has caused a lot of pain to many people especially his family and those from the sporting arena.
Teddy Balkind was involved in a collision at the game against Brunswick. That made him lose balance and drop on the floor. At that point, a Brunswick player collided with him and then his skate cut off Teddy Balkind’s neck.
The game was immediately halted and he was rushed to Greenwich Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Checks made by us revealed that St. Luke’s cancelled classes on January 7, to enable family and friends of Teddy to mourn him. They also lowered the school’s flag to fly half-mast.
