Why Are Advertisers Leaving X?

Owner of X, formerly known as Twitter, Elon Musk, is putting even more pressure on his own business after criticising marketers who paused their ads on the social media network.
Major corporations like Disney and Apple suspended their advertising after Musk supported a conspiracy theory on X that was antisemitic earlier this month. He instructed businesses not to advertise and refuted the charge of antisemitism. Geoff Bennett spoke with NPR’s Bobby Allyn about further details.

Why Are Advertisers Leaving X?

Numerous sponsors, including major players like Apple, Coca-Cola, and Disney, have abandoned X since Musk stated in a tweet that an article on the site propagating antisemitic stereotypes about Jews inciting hatred towards White people was “the actual truth.”

In general, advertisers are reluctant to align their brands and marketing messaging with contentious issues because they worry that the presence of inflammatory content may damage their reputation among consumers.

According to a New York Times article, X might lose up to $75 million in revenue if its major advertisers go away.
