Joseph Anthony Gatto Jr. (born June 5, 1976) is an American improv comedian, actor, and producer from the Staten Island neighborhood of New York City. Gatto is of Italian descent and was born on Staten Island.
Gatto graduated from Monsignor Farrell High School. Joseph was a member of his high school's Improvisation Club, along with Murray, Vulcano, and Quinn.
Joseph attended LIU Post and graduated with a degree in accounting. Gatto's father died in 1995 of unknown causes. The popular belief is that he died of alcoholism, but Gatto has declared this to be false.
Murray, Gatto, and Vulcano reunited after graduating from college and began practicing improvisation at Gatto's house, going on to tour as an improv and sketch comedy troupe called the Tenderloins in 1998.
The Tenderloins started making comedy sketches together and posting them on YouTube, Myspace, and Metacafe, amassing millions of views. For the sketch “Time Thugs,” the troupe won the $100,000 grand prize in the NBC It's Your Show competition in 2007.
Joseph was a member of the Tenderloins, a comedy group that also included Sal Vulcano, James Murray, and Brian Quinn. Joseph and the other Tenderloins members appeared in the television series Impractical Jokers, which premiered on TruTV on December 15, 2011
