Why Is The Movie Called The Color Purple?

The title of the film “The Color Purple” is based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. The title relates to a scene in the book in which Shug Avery asks Celie if she notices the small things that God does to show us that He loves us.

He says, “I think it pisses God off if you walk by the colour purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it.” . This phrase is a metaphor for life’s beauty and the necessity of enjoying the little things. Steven Spielberg directed the film adaptation of the novel, which was released in 1985.
