Yulia Navalny was born Yulia Borisovna Abrosimova on July 24, 1976, in Moscow, Soviet Union, to physicist Boris Aleksandrovich Abrosimov (1952—1996).

Her mother worked for the Ministry of Light Industry; her parents separated while Navalnaya was in fifth grade, and her mother remarried to an official of the USSR State Planning Committee.

According to writer Oleg Kashin in 2020, Navalnaya’s father is the presently living Boris Borisovich Abrosimov, the secretary of the Russian embassy in Great Britain and a member of the special services, while her aunt is Elena Borisovna Abrosimova, one of the Russian constitution’s architects. Navalny responded by publishing a death certificate for his father-in-law dated 1996.

Navalnaya completed her studies at the Faculty of International Economic Relations at the Plekhanov Russian Economic Academy, pursued internships overseas, continued her education in graduate school, and gained professional experience at a Moscow-based bank.
