After four individuals lost their lives in several shootings that sparked dread around the city and a live-streamed video of a guy being shot inside an auto parts store surfaced online, a 19-year-old man was detained in Memphis.
After shootings in at least eight different sites caused a citywide alert, the culprit, named by authorities as Ezekiel D. Kelly, is now in custody.
At an early-morning news conference on Thursday, Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis announced the four fatalities and referred to the incident as a “mobile mass shooting.” She reported that one person was unharmed and that three others were injured, including an AutoZone employee who was seriously hurt and is currently receiving medical attention.

Ezekiel Kelly was born on October 14, 2002; not much is known about his family at this time, but police are looking into the situation. According to reports, he was first arrested in 2020 on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder, one count of reckless endangerment, and one count of possessing a firearm; at the time, he was only 17 years old. He was sentenced to 11 months in prison rather than the maximum of three years, and on March 16, he was released early.
