In the second round of the 1979 NBA Draft, Toone was chosen by the Philadelphia 76ers when his NCAA eligibility expired.

Toone, a four-year letter winner, is most remembered for his memorable 18-point performance against Wake Forest in Marquette’s 1977 championship game in the Midwest Regional Final.

He received fourth-team All-American recognition from the National Association of Basketball Coaches two years later after averaging 18.7 points and 6.7 rebounds as a senior.

Over the course of his Marquette career, Toone averaged 9.3 points and 4.1 assists in 118 games.

He played for the Philadelphia 76ers for one season after being chosen in the second round of the 1979 NBA Draft.
