Charles Marquise Godfrey, a former free safety in American football, was born on November 15, 1985.
In the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers selected him out of Iowa’s collegiate football program.
Godfrey played in 47 games for the University of Iowa, starting 28, 25 at cornerback, 2 at strong safety, and 1 at free safety.
He made 193 tackles and seven interceptions throughout the course of his career.
He had 83 tackles and two interceptions in his junior year and had 65 tackles and five interceptions as a senior.
Godfrey was re-signed by the Panthers on September 10, 2011, to a contract extension worth $27.5 million over five years, with $12.4 million guaranteed. Godfrey received a $7,875 punishment on October 26, 2012, for a chop block he committed in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys.
Godfrey was changed from safety to Nickelback during the offseason prior to the 2014 NFL season. The 21st of October 2014 saw his release.
On March 15, 2016, Godfrey signed a new deal to remain with the Falcons. However, he later made the decision to retire and was added to the team’s reserve/retired list. As of July 26, 2020, he was taken off the list.
