How long has Sirhan Sirhan been in prison?: After the heinous murder of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, Sirhan Sirhan was sentenced to death in 1969. His sentence was, however, reduced to life imprisonment in 1972. He has been in prison since. So currently in 2022, he has been in prison for the past 50 years.
On August 27, 2021, after many years of being denied parole, he was granted parole by a two-person panel of the California parole board.
He was however denied parole on January 13, 2022, by Gavin Newsom the 40th governor of California. According to Newsom, Sirhan still poses an unreasonable threat to public safety even at age 77.
“Mr Sirhan’s assassination of Senator Kennedy is among the most notorious crimes in American history.” He wrote in his decision. We do not know for how many years more Sirhan is going to remain in prison.
