American actor, singer, dancer, comedian, film producer, and television director Samuel George Davis Jr. (December 8, 1925 – May 16, 1990) was also a dancer.
With his father Sammy Davis Sr. and the Will Mastin Trio, Davis started his career in vaudeville at the age of three. His film career started in 1933. Following his time in the military, Davis rejoined the group and, after performing at Ciro’s (in West Hollywood) after the 1951 Academy Awards, quickly rose to fame.
Sammy Davis Jr began recording music after the trio formed. He lost his left eye in an automobile accident when he was 29 years old, in 1954. Later, after discovering similarities in the oppression faced by Jewish and African-American communities, he converted to Judaism.
