The Indiana Pacers are an American professional basketball team based in Indianapolis, United States. The Pacers compete in the NBA (National Basketball Association) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. They were first established in 1967, as a member of the American Basketball Association (ABA) and later became a member of the NBA in 1976 as a result of the ABA–NBA merger.

The Pacers play their home games at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. They are named after the state of Indiana’s history with the Indianapolis 500’s pace cars and with the harness racing industry.

Who Owns Pacers?

The Indiana Pacers are owned by Herbert “Herb” Simon, an American real estate developer, who resides in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was educated at the City College of New York, and is also the chairman emeritus of the shopping mall developer, Simon Property Group. In 2010, Herb purchased Kirkus Reviews.

In 1983, Herb and his brother, Mel (1927–2009), purchased the NBA’s Indiana Pacers from Frank Mariani and Sam Nassi. He also owns the WNBA’s Indiana Fever, and formerly owned the USL’s now defunct Reno 1868 FC.
